My English class just finished reading and discussing Romeo and Juliet

by William Shakespeare. For the past couple of weeks my class and I have learned quite a bit. Life in the days of Romeo and Juliet was unfair.

One example of how unfair life was then is that Romeo was in love with a beautiful girl named Rosalynn but she didn’t notice him. He would try to impress her with his wealth by buying her gifts. He would also look deep in her eyes to show that he really cared. Romeo even called her endearing names such as sweetheart and honey. Romeo would try everything to get her to like him.

Another proof that life was unfair then is that when the Caplets’ servant invited Romeo to the party, Benvolio and Mercucio made him finally give in. Romeo told them that he did not wish to attend, but they pushed him into it any ways. They would tell him that he needed to get over Rosalynn and when he didn’t want to. When they arrived at the party Romeo had changed his mind and refused to go in, Benvolio and Mercucio forced him to. When Romeo eventually did enter the party his friends told him he had to mingle with the other guests.

A final substantiation that life in those days was unfair is that when Romeo and Juliet fell in love, they knew they could never see each other. Their familys did not get, along so they couldn’t tell their parents of their love. They couldn’t see each other in public because if someone were to see, it would cause great difficulties. Once Romeo got exiled they had no hope of seeing one another again. They also could never start a family of their own.

In conclusion, it would have been unfair to be living during the era of Shakespeare’s famous young lovers. Life in the United States is very different than life in the fourteenth century in Italy because even if your parents don’t agree upon two lover’s marriage, they can still get married and tell people. In today’s world there are laws that prevent people from being exiled, so that isn’t a possibility
