ELECTRONIC TECHNICIANS

An electronic technician, like any other type of technician, should be good at his job. It will help him not only to make a good career, but keep it as well. So what makes a good electronic technician? Well, there are at least three qualities that would determine if he’s good or not. He should be knowledgeable, patient, and trustworthy. these tree qualities will benefit both the technician, and the customer. It will allow for a better work environment as well as a safe one.

An electronic technician should be knowledgeable. A good technician should understand the field of electronics. There are many different types of fields in electronics, but they all have the same basic fundamentals. He should choose the field or fields he wants to go into and learn as much about it as he can. He should know about the equipment he is working on and the tools he is working with. One of the most important things he should be knowledgeable of is all safety procedures of both the equipment and the environment.

The technician should be patient. Lack of patience can mean he will not do as well of a job as he is able to do. He is likely to get frustrated easier. Frustration can cause him to take the equipment he is working on and tear it up even worse than it was in the first place. This could cost him time and money. He would end up losing his customers and probably his job if he is not thorough with his work.

Do my coursework

Trust plays a major role in how well a technician will perform his duties. The technician should be honest with customers. He should never lie to a customer to make more money off of them. For example, he shouldn’t do a job that cost $0 to fix and charge the customer for a $100 job. The technician should be honest with his co-workers as well. Lying to a co-worker can get someone hurt or even killed. If the technician tears a piece of equipment but lies to cover it up, another technician could come behind him to work and get hurt.

As you can see, a knowledgeable, patient, and trustworthy technician makes a good technician. He will find the good careers, make more customers happy, and probably enjoy his job better. Having these three characteristics will provide better quality in job performance along with customer satisfaction. So the next time you need an electronic technician, look for these things. If you are the technician, maybe you would want to consider weather or not you have at least these three qualities. If not, good luck.

How to gain weight

We are ready to represent the best custom paper writing assistance that can cope with any task like How to gain weight even at the eleventh hour. How to gain weight

Weight gain is something that isnt easy to do and you probably know this already. I know first hand because it is something I have to do every day. I am an ectomorph by genetics, which is the skinny body type and the one with the fast metabolism which makes gaining so hard for guys like me. The key to weight gain is to do everything BIG. You have to eat big, to lift big, to get big. Say that over and over again in your head until you fully understand it. A lot of people think weightlifting is the key to gaining weight, and I wont argue, it is an extremely important part. BUT, there is another thing that is just as important when it comes to how to gain weight, and that is your diet.

So, to put it as simply as possible, there are 5 simple steps to how to gain weight, and here they are

1) Count how many calories you eat in a normal day. Dont change anything, just eat like you normally would and count how many calories you consumed. This is an extremely important step, so try to be as exact as possible. Also, weigh yourself.

Write my paper for me!!!

) Starting the day after you counted calories, eat 500 calories MORE then you normally do. So, lets pretend that the day you counted calories you counted 000. For the rest of the week, you would now eat 500 calories a day. Instead of eating big meals a day or eating all day all the time, spread those calories out over 5-6 smaller meals. Eat one meal every and a half to hours. To get big, you have to eat big! Remember that.

) Weightlifting! Get in the gym and lift! This is another important step to how to gain weight, so make sure you are doing it correctly. For more information on weightlifting workout routines and splits, read the workout routines and splits section.

4) At the end of that week, weigh yourself. Youll notice your gaining just after one week! Now, dont expect to see a 10lb increase. Gaining anymore then 1 or pounds a week is unhealthy and means your putting on way to much fat. So look for 1 or pound gains at the end of the week. Dont sound like much? You can be gaining 5-8 pounds a month!

5) Heres an important one. At some point, you will stop seeing weight gain. At this point, you will have to eat even more. So, when you stop gaining for at least weeks, it means it is time to start eating an extra 50 calories a day. Every time you see you havent gained weight for at least weeks, add an extra 50 calories.

More tips for how to gain weight (extremely important!)

- Stay away from fat! Eventhough weight gain is your goal, you dont want to be gaining fat. Get rid of the chips and candy. No more fast food, nothing fried. Stick to high protein low fat foods like tuna fish (and other seafood), chicken breast, turkey, lean meats, fruits and vegetables etc. (For more information, read the diet and nutrition section.

- WATER! Drink water! Drink around a half gallon a day, more if you can. Yes thats alot of water, but its that water that will give you the energy you need to gain that weight!

- Sleep! YES! Sleep! The easiest, yet most over looked step. Get atleast 8 hours of sleep a night. Your gonna need it!

Now the concern some people have about how to gain weight, is how to do it without putting on extra fat. Let me tell you how, YOU CANT! Unless you are using steroids, it is basically impossible to gain weight without putting on a little bit of extra fat. But hey, you want to see some weight gain right? Well then who cares about the little bit of extra fat you might put on while gaining. You will be able to burn that off later on, right now gaining is your main concern, so that is all you need to worry about.

MUSCLE GAIN QUESTIONS #

====================

QUESTION Anthony, I want bigger biceps! Your biceps are really huge,

how did you build them? Any tips?

ANSWER Believe it or not, I train biceps just like any other muscle,

once a week with heavy weight. Some people may respond better with

training them twice per week, but I have to stay focused on my main goal

which is gaining overall mass.

If you want more bicep size, gain more weight. If you arent gaining

any body weight, then you wont gain much arm size either. Instead of

focusing on bicep curls, focus on mass building lifts like squats,

deadlifts and barbell rows. These lifts will add mass to your entire frame,

including your biceps! This is how I did it!

----------

QUESTION I know that you recommend eating more calories to gain mass,

but I seem to be getting fat. How do I gain muscle not fat? Help!

ANSWER Truthfully, you will always gain some fat when on a high

calorie diet. That’s just an unavoidable fact, and anyone who tells you

differently is misleading you. Though you cannot totally prevent fat gain,

you can keep it to minimal levels.

The major reasons people gain large amounts of fat on a mass diet is

usually because they are eating too many calories. Yes, you need plenty

of calories to build muscle, but too many calories will simply be stored

as fat. What I recommend is slowing increasing your calories in small

increments while closely monitoring your body fat levels. If you notice

that you are starting to gain more fat, then reduce your calories

slightly. The other cause of excess fat gain is usually due to a large

intake of simple sugars. Many people on a high calorie diet resort to

sugary foods and drinks because they have a lot of calories, but what they

don’t realize is that the sugar is contributing to their “above average”

fat storage. Just remove the sugar and replace it with starches or

whole grains instead.

----------

QUESTION Anthony, I’m on a weight gain program, but I’m not seeing my

six pack. I do crunches every day, but my abs are hardly visible at

all. What am I doing wrong?

ANSWER Everyone has the potential for great abs, but to see them you

must remove the layer of fat covering them. To do this you should follow

a lower calorie diet that focus on reducing your body fat levels. This

is just the opposite of what is required to build large amounts of

mass. To build mass requires higher calorie dieting, which will cause you

to gain some additional body fat as well as muscle. Sorry, but that’s

the truth!

During my 1 week transformation, I first focused on gaining mass, and

then later I focused on lowering my body fat levels to reveal my abs. I

did not try to do both at the same time. If I had, I would have never

made much progress either way.

----------

QUESTION Anthony, I have really small wrists. Is there anyway I can

make them bigger like yours?

ANSWER Unfortunately your wrists and ankles dont contain much muscle

to develop. The size of those areas is determined by your bone

structure and frame size, which is mostly hereditary and cannot be changed. If

you have a small frame, you will have small wrists and ankles.

I have a small frame. My wrists and ankles appear larger because as I

gained more weight, the muscles near those areas (forearms, lower

calves) became larger and gave those areas the appearance of being slightly

larger. . . an added bonus of packing on more mass!

----------

QUESTION Anthony I heard that you can bench press 00lbs! I not nearly

as strong as you, will I be able to build muscle even if I can’t lift

such heavy weight?

ANSWER Where did you hear that? I’m not quite up to that level of

bench pressing, but don’t be intimidated by the strength levels of others.

It doesn’t have any bearing on your training. To build muscle, you must

work YOUR muscles at near maximum levels. That specific level varies

with everyone, but no matter how strong or weak you may be, you can still

push your muscles hard enough to spur growth. I did not start out at my

current strength levels. I was much weaker, but over time, my strength

increased. So will yours.

----------

QUESTION Anthony, I really don’t have an appetite, and don’t like to

eat much but I do like to workout. Would I still be able to gain

weight if I just went to the gym more instead of eating more? Will this

work?

ANSWER No. Resistance training stresses and damages muscle tissue.

Your body responds to this stress by building larger and stronger muscle

fibers. Your body needs food to repair and build muscle tissue after

you workout. No amount of training can make up for your lack of calories.

Adding more workouts will increase the stress and damage, INCREASING

the need for more calories, not reducing it.

Brianne Miller

Mr. Kauffman-DBQ

Despite the horrors of the Holocaust, abuses of human rights have continued in the post World War II era. There are many atrocities that continued, however there have also been efforts to stop these abuses.

Document 1 demonstrates the pass-system of apartheid in Africa. The pass-system was a system established by the English, where only the Native Americans had to carry a pass around with them in case they were stopped and checked by the English Police. This “pass-system” violated human rights because only blacks were subject to this system. If they were caught without a pass with them, they would be arrested. This was unfair to the blacks and violated their rights.

Document 4 also states examples of how human rights were still being violated in the post World War II era. Document 4 is an article entitled “The Killing of Cambodia” published in 18. It states that education and religious practices were not allowed. This violated the human right to freely practice religion and education. This article also states that families were broken apart in Cambodia, which is also another violation of human rights.

A genocide in Rwanda violated human rights as well. Document 6 states that 500,000 people were carried out in the spring of 14 in Rwanda. Thousands of Africans were raped, tortured and beaten. The international community did not do anything about these human rights that were being violated. The United Nations took action and got involved to get rid of these abuses of human rights. However, rationalizing prosecutions seemed impossible since Rwanda’s justice system had been destroyed.

Although many woman’s rights were violated post WWII, efforts were also taken to end these violations. Document states actions that were taken to end apartheid. For example, in 17, the United Nation General Assembly declares apartheid a crime against Humanity. Also in 10, Nelson Mandela is released from prison and legal end of segregation in public places occurred.

Document 8 also identifies actions taken by Amnesty International to protect human rights. For example, publicize the cases of prisoners of Conscince or persons who have otherwise been subjected to disabilities in violation of the provisions. Document 8 also states how the statue of Amnesty International will now investigate and publicize the disappearance of persons where there is reason to believe they may be victims of violations of the rights set out in Article 1. These are only a few examples of steps taken to correct the violations of human rights.

There were many examples of human rights abuses in the post-WWII era, such as apartheid in South Africa, segregation, racism, and much more. However, many steps were taken to end such atrocities in order to stop the violations of human rights and create all men equal.

This remarkable novel was about a man and his struggle to survive by himself while all odds were against him. While reading this book, it made me realize that when in a situation like that, the mental portion of the battle is more challenging than the physical one. Joe Simpson spent four days constantly questioning himself, of all the outcomes and possibilities of his fate. At times he surely felt as if the glacier would take his life. However while spending hours doubting himself, he found that inner voice inside him to give him the courage to try. To try and save his own life and take over where Simon could no longer be of assistance. Once Joe had fallen into the crevasse he spent which seemed to be an eternity wondering what would happen next. If he had only started his descent down the dark and uncharted territory of the crevasse earlier, he could have possibly emerged out of the hole while Simon was still coming down the glacier. It would have saved him a lot of pain from hopping and crawling on his severely battered knee. I don’t understand how a man could have so much to push for; so much to try to look forward to, while everything is going wrong. It made me question how far the human body could be pushed, especially without food or water for three or four days in high altitude. I would have thought his body would deteriorate beyond the point of mobility. Joe somehow fought his way through numerous dilemmas that kept arising in his pathway to safety. His mind was surely much stronger than his body for him not to succumb to inevitable death. His own inner voice had driven him on despite a shattered knee which later turned into a mangled and perverse leg, while all the time climbing and crawling with badly frostbitten fingers. During all of this, monstrous storms took its toll on both climbers throwing at them spindrifts, avalanches and temperatures less than twenty below zero. For them to go on and try to survive, they needed much motivation supplied not only by the fear of the death or the bitter cold storms; they needed to get down the mountain for themselves, so they could be the ones to say, “We climbed the West Face successfully.”

I haven’t even began to apprehend how much thought Simon had put into cutting the rope. It had seemed that Simon had no other choice but to save his own life and cut away his handicapped climbing partner. I myself could not do this someone. If it meant taking the chance of indisputably dying, that’s what I would have to do. I, under no circumstances could have the weight on my shoulders of my friend’s death. At least that is what Simon thought; he was unaware that his actions wasn’t the reason Joe “supposedly” died. Simon had thought that it was his fault Joe was gone. Simon reasoned that it was because of him cutting the rope that Joe fatally fell to his death into the crevasse. I could not live with such a burden all of my life, especially after getting so far together, while being so close to the end. Simon had made the survivors decision and it was indeed a wise one. He had to make an instinctive decision on what the consequences were. There was no doubt that he would be killed. But with Joe’s “lucky fall” would Simon lie dead while Joe would have actually still survived? Could you imagine how Joe would have felt after his partner had done so much for him? Would Joe have kept going on or would he have been too discouraged for survival? Questions only Joe Simpson could answer, if those were the circumstances.

Climbers are remarkable for they go out and perform such crude tasks, to get in return, the feeling of accomplishment. I would actually like to climb a glacier, however, nothing of Siula Grande’s size, just for myself and my self-esteem. If you attain such a task, you feel unconquerable or maybe invincible. To feel as if you’re on top of the world, yet only several thousand feet high, is unimaginable. These climbers don’t do it to set footsteps where others haven’t gone. Although it may inspire them, they do it purely for the satisfaction of achieving their goals. To be able to tell a story that will leave people astonished and bewildered of what you’ve done in your life. Although many of them indubitably do it for the glamorous views of mountain ranges, these thrill seekers are undeniably some of the bravest men and women in the world.

Surprisingly, I’ve found that this novel has weaved its way into my life. Although it’s a simple way of doing so, I’ve found that it relates to my school work this semester. Taking on a heavy seventeen credit semester spending two days a week at school, thirty plus hours at work, while all the rest of my time goes into my online courses and homework, I’ve found it hard to go on this way. I partake of an extreme workload which I find really difficult to keep up with. Spending most of my free time doing school work, I don’t have much of a life and find it very grueling and strenuous to complete all my desired assignments and studies. I look at it differently now. I feel like if I can think positively of myself, and know I can accomplish it all mentally, than the physical part of my work isn’t as arduous as I would contemplate it to be. Balancing five college level classes with an almost full-time job to obtain the money for these classes is a struggle, although I now find it easier. Joe, a man who is practically immobile, can struggle and fight his way down a horrific glacier while falling into all of nature’s havoc. If he could do that, then obviously, I can simply keep up my ways of study and labor, in order to accomplish my goal and be more prosperous in the future with a well paid job.

Panic Attacks

There are many opinions and theries concerning anxiety and panic

attacks. Some believe panic attacks are caused by a persons inability

Do my coursework

to live the life they dream of, while others believe they are caused by

deep rooted fear based memories that we dont want to deal with. There

are as many opinions as there are experts. I believe the true experts

are the people who experience this dread called panic attacks.

Everyone experiences some form of anxiety in their life, however, not

everyone experiences this intense feeling of a life threating anxiety

called panic attacks. In the Oxford Dictionary of Psychology, panic

attacks are described as a period during which there is a sudden onset

of intense terror, fear, or apprehension, accompanied by signs and

symptoms such as a feeling of impending doom, a fear of going insane,

shortness of breath, a choking sensation, increased heart rate and

palpitations, chest pain or discomfort, dizziness, trembling, sweating,

and nauseas. This description is right on target because it includes most

if not all the symptoms that people have described to their doctors over

the years. I chose this topic because I have first hand experience of

panic attacks which are for the most part under control. I have also had

family and friends that have suffered with them for years, so I can

vouch for the Oxford definition.

Robert Gerzon, author of Finding Serenity in the age of anxiety.

claims that we all should be anxious because it is a good thing. Gerzon

feels that the problem is not anxiety, but that were just not anxious

about the right things. For example, we are anxious about finding a

parking space but not that anxious about finding solutions for

social injustice. This is among the more radical viewpoints. A more

mainstream viewpoint is that of Joseph LeDoux. In his book The

Emotional Brain LeDoux calls anxiety a brooding fear of what

might happen, he also relates panic attacks to other disorders such

as post-traumatic stress disorder, which used to be called shell shock

and veterans of war were stricken with this disorder now we have

found out that woman who have been raped or anyone that has

experienced something traumatic such as /11 can have a problem with

this disorder. Like panic attacks anything can set off an attack like a

loud noise.

The experience of a panic attack is similar to the fear evoked when

a person faces a life threating or dangerous situation in which personal

security is jeopardized, except that there is no apparent external

threat. Intense feelings arise during a panic attack, often along with the

impulse to flee that characterizes the fight or flight response. There

is no way of knowing for sure whether panic attacks and regular fear

are connected but some evidence suggest that panic has unique features

that distinguish it from ordinary fear, such as prominent respiratory

symptoms, including sensations of smothering that are rarely

experienced during fear in life- threating situations.

Many researchers agree that panic attacks are maintained by a fear

of fear concept. One such researcher is Walter Menninger M.D.

author of Coping with Anxiety in which he is of the opinion that the

original or first panic attack a person has is so confusing and intense

that the fear of having another one is indeed what causes the next. So on

and so on until the victim is caught up in a vicious cycle. I can tell you

from experience that the fear of fear concept is very real.

Over the years many famous people have commented on anxiety and

opinions differ as to the benefits of anxiety and the drawbacks.

Perception seems to play a major role in the forming of some of these

opinions. Sigmund Freud had this to say about the problem of anxiety,

Its a nodal point, linking up all kinds of most important questions, a

riddle, of which the solution must cast a flood of light upon our whole

mental life. Ralph Waldo Emerson had a deeper reflection, fear is an

instructor of great saqacity. Even Jesus had something to say about

anxiety, let one who seeks not stop seeking until one finds. when one

finds, one will become anxious. When one is anxious, one will be awe

struck and will enter the kingdom.

The exact cause of panic disorder is unknown. There is a clear influence

of heredity. There may be a temporal lobe dysfunction, or the disorder

may develop as a persistent pattern of maladaptive behavior acquired

by learning. Stimulants. Cocaine, Caffeine, Nicotine, or alcohol may

induce or worsen the symptoms. People with this disorder often undergo

medical evaluations for symptoms related to or other medical

conditions before the diagnosis of panic disorder is made. Attacks may

last from minutes to hours. An affected person often lives in fear of

another attack and may be reluctant to be alone or far from medical

assistance. There is a familial tendency, with age of onset before 5

years old. It occurs more often in women than men. Approximately %

of the population is affected. Panic disorder can occur in children, but

is often not recognized. Anti-anxiety medications and anti-depressants

have been successfully used to treat panic disorders. These medications

act on the central nervous system to reduce the feeling of anxiety and

associated symptoms. A common class of anti-anxiety medications are

the benzodiazepines. However, benzodiazepines are associated with

dependence. Such as Valium, and Ativan. Behavioral therapies that

may be used in conjunction with drug therapy include relaxation

techniques, pleasant mental imagery, and cognitive restructuring.

Psychological counseling and therapy techniques may be helpful.

The disorder may be long-standing and difficult to treat. Although

many with this disorder may not be cured with treatment, many can

expect improvement with drug or behavioral therapy.

I believe the truth depends on the individual, some people need to

stay on anti- depressants all their lives, while others are better off

fighting the attacks and learning how deal with them. I also, believe

that is history there were a lot more dangers that do not exist anymore

but our bodies still has a need to react to them so it does even though the

original danger is no where to be found.

feels that the problem is not anxiety, but that were just not anxious

about the right things.

Panic Attacks

There are many opinions and theries concerning anxiety and panic

attacks. Some believe panic attacks are caused by a persons inability

to live the life they dream of, while others believe they are caused by

deep rooted fear based memories that we dont want to deal with. There

are as many opinions as there are experts.

Attack of the Aliens

Everyone sees life from a different perspective. Our different perspectives of life are the cause, and solution of many problems. Little children are well known for their different views of life. Looking at a VCR one might ask a child what they see. The response would usually not be the obvious. Most children would say that a VCR is a black (or whatever color) monster that eats videos, and later spits them out again. An alien would have much the same view as a little child, innocent yet imaginative; trying to explain something they don’t quite understand.

A Martian Sends a Postcard Home is, simply put, about an alien sending a postcard home to Mars. The alien does not know how to describe certain things, so it does its best by using symbolism, and imagery. Some of the imagery is easy to understand, like “time tied to the wrist” which is obviously a watch. Most of the symbolism of the poem is quite deep, and takes quite a bit of meditating to understand.

Lines 1-4 are spent describing a phone. The author personifies the phone into almost seeming human. The first couple of times I read this poem, I thought that the author was describing a baby. Lines 1 & say “If the ghost cries, they carry it to their lips and soothe it to sleep”. Originally I thought of a crying baby. When a baby cries, a mother will usually pick the child up and try to soothe it back to sleep by speaking kind words to it. The author, we find, is alluding to a phone and not a baby. When the phone (ghost) rings (cries), the occupant of the house will pick it up (carry it to their lips), and once done it will stop the ringing (soothe it back to sleep).

Write my paper for me!!!

Lines 5-0 were the most difficult for me to figure out. After contemplating the meaning of the lines for a long time, I personally came to the conclusion that the author was talking about fear. “Only the young are allowed to suffer openly” would be describing the fact that children are allowed to come to their parents when scared of the monsters, boogieman, or whatever. But, as adults, we are discouraged to share our fears with the rest of the world. “Adults go to a punishment room with water but nothing to eat.” This sounds kind of far fetched, but I believed this to be the idea of drinking knowledge. We can drink knowledge, but not eat it. The punishment room would be our mind. Most often, a person finds that they, themselves, are the hardest judges of themselves. “They lock the door and suffer the noises alone.” We already established that the room is inside the mind. So a person locks themselves in their mind, and does not let anyone share their pain. The noises would be voices in their head; something that must be suffered alone. “No one is exempt and everyone’s pain has a different smell.” I figured the Martian writing this could smell fear, just like a dog. Everyone’s fear has a different smell. The author of the poem, I later found out, was not writing about fear, but about going to the bathroom.

The last stanzas are written about dreams. We know this because they talk about night, and eyelids shut. How fitting to end the poem the same way that most of us end the day, with dreams.

This poem is my favorite because it felt like a compilation of riddles, in poem form, not something seen very often in poetry. It makes you stretch your mind until you understand, or until you think you understand.

The following is an additional riddle for this poem added by a student online. See if you can figure it out…

“A window makes it easy to write, to handle a special kind of television. A button is pressed to free the world for information.”

Doing Business in the Maquiladoras

A Shareholder Challenge

Introduction

In 165 the Mexican government developed a program to develop capital investments and to address high unemployment rates in the northern border towns of Mexico. The Mexican government was offering huge incentives for foreign firms to operate in Mexico. These firms could enjoy preferential tariffs and tax breaks. These tax breaks would be the beginning of a shareholders challenge. This would come to be known as the Maquiladoras (Post, Lawrence, & Weber, 1).

Do my coursework

What the Mexican government offered was preferential tariffs and tax breaks. This offer allowed foreign firms to import materials and semi-finished products into Mexico without paying tariffs. When the product was finished these firms could ship or export these products and only pay tariffs in the value added to the finished product. These incentives would allow the foreign firms to produce products in Mexico at the fraction of the cost in would take to produce good in other countries, especially the U.S.

The development project of Maquiladoras according to the Mexican government was a huge success. It estimates that in 1 the Maquiladoras project contributed $4.74 billion in value added worth to products manufactured or assembled in these factories (Post, Lawrence, & Weber, 1). It is this statement that brings huge debate as to the value added to the Mexican people and their communities. Some believe, as do the Coalition for Justice in the Maquiladoras, and this team Techies, that these benefits do not justify the costs incurred by Mexican people.

The Problem

In 10 the Coalition for Justice in the Maquiladoras, an organization of over 60 environmental, religious, community, labor women’s, and Latino organizations emerged to fight for the Mexican people. What they were fighting for was a better way of life for the Mexican people, a way of life that was supposed to be improved by the Maquiladoras project. What the creators of this project failed to realize was the negative impact to the Mexican people, the environment, and the communities. By 16 there were more the ,00 factories located around the Mexican border towns, half of these owned by U.S. corporations. These factories employed about 750,000 workers. This growth brought many problems.

While there were many moral and social issues initiated by the success of the Maquiladoras project we chose to concentrate on the impact to the environment and local communities. Because of the lack of environmental law and the lack of responsibility by foreign firms operating in Mexico, the Mexican people were incurring huge costs, costs to their environment and communities. Many of the corporations operating in Maquiladoras were not acting responsibly. There were no consequences for mishandling waste produced by these factories. According to an article written by Janet Jarman (18), many companies had been known to contaminate local ground water by discharging untreated industrial waste into local ground water. She also explains that 11 a National Toxics Campaign study found levels of xylene more then 6, 00 times above U.S. drinking water standards. The study also found methylene chloride (a suspected carcinogen) 15,000 times the US ambient water quality (Jarman, 18).

The cause

In their article Post, Lawrence, and Weber (1), Sister Susan Mika, president of the Coalition for Justice in the Maquiladoras, is quoted as saying, “Moral behavior knows no borders. What is wrong in the United States is wrong in Mexico, too.” The problem was that the environmental issues in Maquiladoras knew no boundries as well. In an article written by Janet Jarman (18), she writes that Cameron County, Texas officials reported that the probable cause for babies born with neural tube defects and spina bifida was the trans border air pollution from Matamoras industries.

The lack of funds for local communities infrastructure is also a huge problem. The corporations that were operating in Maquiladoras were not supporting the local communities. The communities were growing as a result of the factories. The community populations and employment rate was also growing. What was failing to grow with them was the city infrastructure to support the growth, this created serious health hazards and poor living conditions. Although 80% of Matamoras, Mexico (a city in the Maquiladoras) residents have access to water supplies, insufficient water pressure and lack of adequate treatment facilities add to the poor quality. Sewage is another problem that the city faces. The city has no means of treating sewage for its 500,000 residents. This poses huge health risks for its residents. Wastes pass through open drains as it exits the city to the Gulf of Mexico. Poor storm drainage makes this an extreme health hazard during floods; raw sewage rises to the surface creating pools of aguas negras or black water (Jarman, 18).

The result

As a result of the Maquiladoras, the environment and Mexican communities as suffered. As discussed above the result of the attack in the environment has also affected the U.S. as well. Cameron County residents will deal with this pollution for generations. People lives have been changed forever. This means forever for the children born with defects and the parents who must care for them. The local Mexican communities must deal with challenges of the Maquiladoras. The very thing that was supposed to improve their lives as only hurt them. With no way of supporting the Maquiladoras growth on their own communities they have no way to protect themselves, the community, and the environment.

Proposals

We see the only way to protect the Mexican People against the big Corporations is in invoke a responsibly tax. Those responsible for the growth of Maquiladoras should pay the responsibly tax. This requires a delicate balance. This tax must improve the communities that are hurt by it, but not drive off the corporations that benefit from it. Our proposal is a unique one. The responsibility tax would fund a trust account that would allow local communities to borrow against it. Each corporation that operates in a community has the responsibly to set aside funds to make infrastructure and environmental improvements. The corporation would take risks if they community failed to repay the loan, but also the chance to make interest on funds they did not lose. It would also be in the best interest of the corporations to provide resources to help community government officials make proper plans and resolutions to be successful. The responsibility from the Mexican government would be to subsidize 5% of the funds lost to bad loans; this would be in the form of a tax break on tariffs of exported goods. We feel that this proposal shows merit and allows the local communities to develop instead of taking a hand out. This would also improve the way of life for the communities of Maquiladoras.

Conclusion

We believe that the responsibility to Maquiladoras starts with the corporations who reside there. They have a responsibly to protect, support, the people, and the environment that they impact. We feel that the impact of social activist groups will continue to play a key role in improving environmental and community issues in Maquiladoras. These groups, through public awareness, will continue their campaigns.
