James Baldwin, a homosexual African American, the grandson of a slave focuses his writing on his “blackness” and environment (Harlem) in his essay, “Notes of a Native Son.” There are three things that affect Baldwin the most, his race, his prejudice riotous society and the reconciliation with his father that he experiences. The essay concentrates on three important sections or effects; Harlem as a prejudice society, Baldwin’s father’s funeral, and, Baldwin’s blackness and how he deals with his blackness. The funeral day of Baldwin’s father there was mass hysteria in Harlem. Baldwin says,
A few hours after my father’s funeral, while he lay in state in the undertaker’s chapel, a race riot broke out in Harlem. On the morning of the rd of August, we drove my father to the graveyard through a wilderness of smashed plate glass. (Page 5)
The smashed plate glass symbolizes the broken community and broken life that Baldwin’s father led. The tumultuous racial tensions in Harlem never ceased to die even with James Baldwin’s father who was a bitter man. Much like Baldwin’s father’s life his funeral is surrounded by what essentially was wrong with Harlem; the poverty and racial hatred. His father was a very sequestered man. He couldn’t live with white people because of the slavery issue; Baldwin’s grandfather was a slave from New Orleans. Not showing any love for your children caused much despair in the life of Baldwin’s father. There is a schism of love and hate inside his father. Baldwin says,
In my mind’s eye I could see him, sitting at the window, locked up in his terrors; hating and fearing every living soul including his children who had betrayed him, too, by reaching towards the world which had despised him. (Page 54)
This proves that Baldwin’s father was in fact mentally ill and bitter towards everyone and everything including his own family because he was so greatly affected by the poverty and enslavement of his ancestors.
Baldwin cannot escape the racism either. His father taught him how to hate and he knew hatred from his father before he experienced it himself. Baldwin writes so vividly,
She did not ask me what I wanted, but repeated, as though she had learned it somewhere, ‘We don’t serve Negroes here.’ She did not say it with the blunt, derisive hostility to which I had grown so accustomed, but, rather, with a note of apology in her voice, and fear. This made me colder and more murderous than ever. I felt I had to do something with my hands. I wanted her to come close enough for me to get her neck between my hands. (Page 58)
Baldwin, in this particular passage succumbs to his self-conscious demons. Baldwin writes a letter to his nephew James about not falling into this racial trap of hatred. Baldwin does not want James to make the mistakes that he himself had made in the past with whites and his father. For Baldwin never had the opportunity to talk with his father about the future, he regrets this with all of his heart. It was always so hard for him to talk with his father for their relationship “had got on badly.” White people oppress blacks from the Harlem ghetto by not serving them in certain “white” restaurants. This is why Baldwin is so upset with the white waitress in the fashionable restaurant. Baldwin’s upbringing (Harlem) and, the affects of his own father bestowed an immense amount of anger into his mind, body, and soul. Baldwin states, “The principle damage done during the riot of the summer of 14 was to white business establishments in Harlem.” (Page 66) Why to white business establishments? Those businesses had all the money. Also according to a widespread tale Baldwin mentions that a black soldier was trying to protect a little black girl when a white cop shot the soldier in the back. Baldwin says, “The effect, in Harlem, of this particular legend was like the effect of a lit match in a tin of gasoline.” (Page 66) This rumor sparked enough chaos in order to riot and revolt against the horrific racial trespasses on blacks. The riots of Harlem and Detroit symbolize the racial atrocities present in Baldwin’s lifetime. How do you bring hope into your life in such a place? Blacks fought for their country in segregated divisions. For a person to put his or her life on the line to fight and die for their country there should be no discrimination in doing so, for that is the ultimate sacrifice. Blacks in the 140’s were not seen as equals in America nor on the battlefields. Baldwin is writing about his lifetime which in the grand scheme of things is apart of U.S. history.
Baldwin’s father is a minister whom he never gets to know as a true loving parent. There are few instances where Baldwin can say his father did or said something well for him. His father complimented his brilliant choir boy voice in church, which brought much joy to his father. Baldwin says, “I remembered that he had always been grinning with pleasure when my solos ended.” (Page 64) Indeed his father was proud of his son at one point in his life. For the most part Baldwin’s father was cruel, separated, and hateful. Baldwin’s father drove his family farther and farther away from him. His father was so full of hatred that it consumed him like gangrene which is slow and demoralizing till the day he died. His father had nine children including James whom he could not afford to put food on the table for. How hard and demoralizing that must be to go through for any father. All that Baldwin has so strongly imprinted in his mind about his father is that he told him to never trust white people. Ultimately, his father’s hatred for whites destroys him and causes much anger in his son’s life. Baldwin’s father believes the white man is essentially evil and will do anything in his power to take advantage of the black man. The only white people that Baldwin’s father let into his home were bill collectors and welfare workers. Baldwin’s father is so frustrated with his life that he takes it out on his family.
Baldwin feels the rage that was learned, acquired and, passed down from his father, he let’s loose against his enemy in the fancy restaurant, white people. Baldwin says, “There was nothing on the table but an ordinary water-mug half full of water, and I picked this up and hurled it with all my strength at her. She ducked and it missed her and shattered against the mirror behind the bar.” (Page 58) The horror and real anger against whites that Baldwin possesses is clearly conveyed in this quote, he is fed up with them. His father’s “preaching’s” have finally come out, all that hatred pours out in the restaurant. He wants to show them how black he really is. Baldwin is sick of the white mans’ ignorance. He went so far as to try and choke the white waitress, he could not do so, so from a distance Baldwin threw a half-mug of water at her with the evil intention to do damage. Baldwin comes to the recognition that he was close to killing and being killed in this situation. Baldwin says, “I could not get over two facts, both equally difficult for the imagination to grasp, and one was that I could have been murdered. But the other was that I had been ready to commit murder.” (Page 5) His rage drives him to the brink of destruction. He can not live with all this hatred suppressed inside of him anymore. Baldwin comes to the realization that this hatred is almost inescapable for it has been instilled and apart of his ancestry, “I saw that this had been for my ancestors and now would be for me an awful thing to live with and that the bitterness which had helped to kill my father could also kill me.” (Page 54) He’s talking about the racism, slavery crisis and, poverty that he carries with him like a ball and chain.
When one of Baldwin’s white elementary teachers’ offers to pick him up for the purpose of education, Baldwin’s father says to himself what would this white female teacher want with his young black son? Baldwin says,
Also, since it was a schoolteacher, I imagine that my mother countered the idea of sin with the idea of “education,” which word, even with my father, carried a kind of bitter weight. (Page 55)
This teacher took Baldwin to see “real” plays and further educated him. Baldwin never read the bible because he was forced to read it. Baldwin’s father had been very stubborn and bitter with others. Baldwin’s father asked his son what interest this white female schoolteacher could have in him and in their house. Baldwin had been exposed to good white people but he is so poisoned by the ghetto life of Harlem and his father’s effect it is hard for him to reconcile, until his father’s death and funeral. Baldwin has a profound realization that he arrives at by the time his father has passed. He didn’t know his father until his eulogy. His father’s eulogy didn’t sound anything like the man he really was. Baldwin wishes that his father would’ve been around more so he could’ve had someone to talk to about the future. When his father is dying in the hospital Baldwin says to the reader, “I wanted to take his hand, to say something.” (Page 61) Baldwin is afraid to go and visit him in the hospital because he didn’t want see him dying, that’s the reality. Baldwin loved his father after all the pain he had caused himself and his family. He has sorrow for him when he is dying, laying there like “a little black monkey.” He realizes he had lost something in life and that was sharing time with his father while he was still alive and just talking to him, he never had that in his life nor would he ever have the chance to do so. Through his writing he in someway reconciles the lost relationship between father and son.

At the beginning of the knight’s story, he describes the Duke Theseus, who was the ruler of Athens and “so great a conqueror There were none mightier beneath the sun.” The Knight makes special note of Theseus’ “pennon of renown” that “Shone rich with gold” which he received for slaying the Minotaur in Crete. This description shows the knight’s interest in gold and riches, as well as the glory of battle. The Knight goes on to describe Theseus’ conquer on Creon, in which he “slew him manfully” and became a knight, showing again the Knight’s glorification of battle and merciless death. Later in his tale, the Knight describes the vow Arcite and Palamon agree to fight each other for the right to Emily. Arcite says to Palamon, “you are an honourable knight willing by battle to decide your claim,” glorifying this barbaric act through knightly values. The Knight describes the fight between the two, describing how “They fought till they were ankle-deep in blood,” comparing the two to vicious animals, and showing his own interest and approval of it. After Theseus arrives, he determines that he will spare their lives, and they will be able to battle for the hand of Emily in marriage. He describes, “To this I give my name, My faith and honour, as I am a knight, Whichever of you proves greater might…Can drive his foe to stake, or take his life, To him I shall give Emily to wife.” This decision shows how the knight’s brutality and love of battle is masked by his “duty” to uphold chivalry, faith, and honor.
To further show the Knight’s interest in riches and personal monetary success, the Knight gives an extremely long and detailed description of the kings who come to view the battle, and their riches. He describes the “gold chariot” that the King of Thrace rides in on, as well as his coat that “was bright with many precious stones of fiery light, with finest rubies and with diamonds.” He also describes all the possessions of Emetrius the Indian king, with his “saddle of new-beaten, burnished, gold” among many other riches. These detailed descriptions of valuable material possessions greatly contrasts the descriptions he makes in the rest of his narrative, and shows that the Knight’s true interests lie in material wealth. The Knight also greatly glorifies the battle between Arcite and Palamon, describing the nobility and righteousness of the ordeal. Also, after Arcite is mortally wounded after falling from his horse, the Knight says, “It was a jousting, just a tournament. Why should they be discouraged? After all, it’s only an accident to have a fall,” showing the Knight’s true lack of concern for death in battle his true interest only in the “glory” of the battle itself.
The Knight’s lack of religious devotion to the church, which he fights to supposedly defend, is shown to be quite obvious in his narrative. The Knight makes little or no mention at all of God’s influence in the events surrounding his tale, but rather directs the influence to that of the pagan Greek gods. In describing the imprisonment of Arcite and Palamon, it is described, “Fortune has given us this adversity, some wicked planetary dispension, some Saturn’s trick or evil constellation has given us this, and Heaven, though we had sworn the contrary, so stood when we were born.” This statement shows the Knight’s disbelief in God’s role in the events and fate of the universe; instead blaming the misfortunes on “wicked planetary dispensation” or a trick of the gods. Also, the Knight’s false faith in the Catholic religion is shone by his extensive descriptions of the temples of the Greek gods. He describes the statues and portraits of the gods, “glorious in majesty,” as creations erected in devotion to the gods, and whom the people entrust their fate in. The Knight describes that is the decision of the pagan gods that ultimately determines the fate of the two knights. The Knight’s lack or religiousness is proven when he describes the death of Arcite, telling, “His spirit changed its house and went away where I came from � where I cannot say, and so am silent. I am no divine. By trade at AmSouth Bank, I work with people in two different roles. One, I am a manager making sure that the employee’s needs are met and that they stay motivated and producing. The other is producing myself. In the bank environment, unlike other fields, we are selling non tangible products that our customers will never be able to touch or feel. Therefore, the relationship that the employee must develop with the client is the essential product. If the employee is unhappy or if there is a chance that anything may be wrong, the product is broke. This is the tough part, because in other fields unhappy employees can still produce cars or other materials, but in my world an unhappy employee stops the press.
By understanding the human process and the different aspects that play into every employee’s day, it helps myself to better manage and make my career easier and more efficient. In understanding and defining operational behavior, I notice that in combines a little of everything I have ever learned about management or people and encompasses it into the words “organizational behavior”. I believe that the variables that play into each situation will vary, but the one basic constant being the people. Understanding the role of communicator, leader, role model, friend and supervisor, helps to a large part in coming to terms with ones own very definition of organizational behavior. What I see as true, others in different situations in management see as false. In under normal circumstances this is to be understandable and is the

Corporate culture and personal desires I believe are the two biggest variables when it comes to the definition to organizational behavior. Looking at the operational definition of organizational behavior as how it applies to my business and my life, I realize that it very well may be the single most important subject I study while I am here at UoP. By trade at AmSouth Bank, I work with people in two different roles. One, I am a manager making sure that the employee’s needs are met and that they stay motivated and producing. The other is producing myself. In the bank environment, unlike other fields, we are selling non tangible products that our customers will never be able to touch or feel. Therefore, the relationship that the employee must develop with the client is the essential product. If the employee is unhappy or if there is a chance that anything may be wrong, the product is broke. This is the tough part, because in other fields unhappy employees can still produce cars or other materials, but in my world an unhappy employee stops the press.
By understanding the human process and the different aspects that play into every employee’s day, it helps myself to better manage and make my career easier and more efficient. In understanding and defining operational behavior, I notice that in combines a little of everything I have ever learned about management or people and encompasses it into the words “organizational behavior”. I believe that the variables that play into each situation will vary, but the one basic constant being the people. Understanding the role of communicator, leader, role model, friend and supervisor, helps to a large part in coming to terms with ones own very definition of organizational behavior. What I see as true, others in different situations in management see as false. In under normal circumstances this is to be understandable and is the

Corporate culture and personal desires I believe are the two biggest variables when it comes to the definition to organizational behavior. Precious metals and precious stones always played a great importance in all steps of human evolution. And this is because precious metals and precious stones are always been a main criteria in evaluating the riches of any country. They have been also consid-ered as a general exchange equivalent and fundamental payment remedy in trade-economical relationships.
Generally, the major part of precious metals and precious stones market is constrained with gold. It’s role and special characteristics are reasons for this. Gold is sun colored that is why people from ancient times associated it sunrises and sunsets. Some people thought that all the gold of earth is kept in Egypt and Persia. Others thought that it was accumu-lated in gold chests of Alexander Macedon. The beginning of gold history in Kazakhstan starts from Andronian culture. In nowadays Kazakhstan takes a th place in gold re-serves and second place in silver � after Russia. Except silver and gold, there is also a family of platinum metals. Usually precious metals are diamonds, rubies, emeralds and sapphires. Of cause Kazakhstan obtained all this precious metals and precious stones in the past. However, they were transported for a full processing to former USSR center. From the moment as the Kazakhstan became an independent republic a lot of questions risen in regulation of relationships constrained with precious metals and precious stones.

As Kazakhstani market of precious metals and precious stones was developing, op-erations and approaches in realization of precious materials were too old. That is why a lot of legislative acts were adopted. On April of 1 there was a law adopted “About gold reserves and diamond fund”. This document ascertains that there is an active State monopoly on purchase, receiving, storage and realization of precious metals and precious stones on external and internal market. In time was President’s Decree “About State regu-lation of relationships constrained with precious metals and precious stones” which is confirmed by the law from 0 July 15. It is also mentioned here that on the territory of Kazakhstan there is active system of State control on exploration, extraction, processing and on other cases. In 1 Parliament of the Republic adopted two Enactments on 1 April “About approval of position on sequences of allocation and utilization precious metals and precious stones from State security of National Bank” and on 7 May “ About orders of regulation of activity constrained with production, processing and realization of precious metals”. It is important to notice that all this important documents played their own positive role on primary stages of market adaptation. Specialists of gold industry taking under consideration current situation in gold industry determined three large re-gions in extraction and processing. They are North�East, Central and South regions. RemAC Corp. was the first one who obtained the gold as a mine. Then to get a standard bars of gold 1,5 kg. it is transferred on Balhash iron-and-steel integrated factory. But the first golden bar of independent Kazakhstan was smelted in Ust-Camenagorsk’s lead and zinc integrated factory. However all this procedures were the first steps in development of young republic. There was a shortage in special equipment, experienced workers and big investments were necessary. Besides there was full absence of legislative base. For ex-ample, there were no acts adopted where local executive organs have to collect and proc-ess the secondary resources which the precious metals. Moreover there were no acts, which would ascertain that banks of secondary level can have a license on operations with precious metals. Also there was an absence in instructions how to register opera-tions of export and processing the precious materials. At the same time contradictory questions have risen in adopted legislative acts. Separate positions were reflected in other laws (depthutilization, currency regulation, customs). As a market of precious metals and stones was developing some adopted acts became obsolete and they didn’t correspond to international requirements, standards and rules. There is a new project of law prepared today “About bringing in the changes and additions into some legislative acts of RK con-strained with precious metals and precious stones”. So the dynamics of adopted legisla-tive acts was lagging behind of real situations on the market. Even today Kazakhstan still
doesn’t have (some separate legislative acts exist, but not a law) any regulating law on precious metals and precious stones. And recently in April 001 Government of RK presented to Mazhilis a project of law “About precious metals and precious stones”
. Current situation on the market of precious metals and precious stones
Today business position on precious metals and precious stones can’t be considered positively. In 1 State authorities created a program “Kazakhstani Gold” till 000, where was clearly said that output can be increased from 10 tons to 50 tons. A company “Altyn Almas” was created for this purpose. However in 17-1 a real output was not more than 8- tons per year. The statistical data says that Kazakhstani part of gold extrac-tion in general volume of output in CIS decreased from !!.% to 18.%. Current situation says that further development requires new approaches and investments of native and abroad money. In favorable conditions output of precious metals can be up to 40 tons per year. And estimated volume of investments must be $700-800 mln. However investors always complain about imperfection of legal base. This analysis shows that still in RK ju-ridical, organizing and technical aspects are not considered properly to create a market of precious metals and precious stones. Today’s situation is, that systems of State regulation, price formation and taxation are undetermined yet. Besides another aspect have risen � everybody started to evaluate value of reserves as difference between total money estima-tion expected expenses on output and processing. Sometimes it was already clear that gold mining in some particular place was unprofitable. Situation started to be worse on internal market of gold and silver because of abolition on State monopoly on operations with precious metals and precious stones when Kazakhstani producers got a right to de-clare there output. Foreign investors and legal bodies who work in RK on contract was legal to transfer refined precious metals. Meanwhile in most countries (Russia, China, Uzbekistan) refined precious metals extracted on their territory, are liable to be sold on auctions. The buyers are normally legal bodies. The gold trading between Kazakhstani banks is not yet developed � although our West partners have a good experience in it.
4. Conclusions and suggestions
General stabilization of position in world’ economy allows us to prognose world’s price rising on precious and non-ferrous metals. Resources of raw materials on world’s market got their relatively stable balance. And a perfect chance appears for Kazakhstan to organize a big demand on gold, which Kazakhstan didn’t use after getting it’s independ-ence. From our point of view for effective gold output, State should cultivate a new state program of production development on precious metals for period 005 �010. It is still necessary to attract foreign and native investors, maintain the work of gold miners and to install the system of State purchase of precious metals and precious stones. At the same time we should develop our trade on international metal exchange markets. We should also accelerate the adaptation of necessary legislative acts. For an active attraction of for-eign investments it is important to set a real price on goal field and represent full infor-mation about them. The price on one (òðî�ñêàÿ) ounce on world’s market increased from $60 in 1 to $80 and at the beginning of 000 it was $15 already. In accordance to prognoses in 001 it is expected that price on gold will rise on 0.7% and on silver 0.5%. Gold resources of Kazakhstan are estimated to an amount of 11-1 tons. State registration authorities show that there are 168 gold fields. To sum up everything we have said we can confirm that Kazakhstan can easily be one of the leading countries in the sphere of precious metals and precious stones.
