The Golden Calf


The Golden Calf is a biblical story that shows the impatience of the Israelites and how they suffered from it. It begins when Moses went to Mt. Sinai to get God’s rules and specifications on how to live and worship. Moses was gone for a long time so the people became impatient. They even assumed that Moses was dead. This idol was then presented to the people and they accepted this as the god that brought them out of Egypt. When Aaron saw that it was all good, he built an altar in front of it and said that there would be a festival to the Lord the next day. During the following day the people sacrificed to this idol, The Golden Calf.


During this time Moses was on top of Mt. Sinai getting the Ten Commandments (tablets) form God. God spoke to Moses and told him to go back to the Israelite camp because they have sinned and created and idol. Because of this God’s anger burned against his people and He was ready to wipe them of the face of the earth. Then Moses pleaded to God and reminded Him of the covenant He had made with Abraham. This ultimately saved the people the punishment God had for His people. When Moses finally got to the camp he saw everything and was awfully awe struck. He dropped the tablets of the Ten Commandments and went to Aaron for answers. As with all people Aaron made an excuse and said “Then they gave me the gold, and I threw it into the fire, and out came a calf!” Then Moses commanded them as God said to him to kill you brother, friend, and neighbor. With this the people were punished.
